Local. Trusted. Serving You:
Experience the Cooperative Difference

The financial crisis has shown that co-ops can be a key part of building a resilient local economy, which can be trusted to benefit people in difficult times. Co-op Month 2010 is a chance to celebrate our business model's contribution to economic recovery!

Our 2010 theme—"Local. Trusted. Serving You."—underlines that co-ops are tied to their local communities in ways that other businesses are not. Co-ops are owned and controlled by the people who use them, and exist to serve those members.

To promote this year's theme, the National Co-op Month Committee will make use of several vehicles to promote co-ops during the month-long celebration this October:

  • Co-op Week — Plan your Co-op Month activities during the week of October 17 - 23 to create a nationwide cooperative awareness week. Work with other co-ops in your community to create a co-op tour in your neighborhood.
  • Marketing Advertisements — Ad templates for all cooperatives which convey a unified message for increasing consumer awareness.
  • Facebook — A special "group" page on the world's most popular social networking site to educate consumers about Co-op Month and cooperative business.
  • Twitter — An easy way for co-ops to hear what others are doing for co-op month.
  • Zazzle.com — Purchase co-op themed promotional items to increase awareness of cooperatives among your membership.
  • A Day in the Life — download the updated award winning publication to distribute among your membership at Lulu.com.
  • Go.coop — Direct consumers to the redesigned go.coop Web site to learn more about cooperative business.

How You Can Get Involved in Co-op Month 2010

A successful Co-op Month campaign takes a lot of energy and other resources to get the word out to consumers. To cover the costs for the marketing activities for consumers and cooperatives, we encourage you to make a donation in support for Co-op Month.

However, the best way to support Co-op Month is to use all the collateral and marketing tools we've created for Co-op Month 2010 to build greater understanding about cooperatives in your area! When you use these materials, you clearly show that you're part of the greater community of the more than 29,000 cooperatives. This helps us create a strong, unified presence for cooperatives and lets consumers and policy makers know the true value of cooperative business in the U.S.

When cooperatives come together as a unified front, we bring greater awareness that cooperatives are the best business model when it comes to economic and social change.
